palmetto adventure land playground aka carolina forest park
This park eluded us for months because it doesn’t usually show up on the list of county parks. It is packed in with the other amenities of Carolina Forest (Rec Center and Carolina Forest Library). park overview
The park is located in the heart of Carolina Forest and tucked away behind the library. There is plenty of parking and portable potties are available. The park is really just the playground, however. No other park features to mention.
The Carolina Forest library is huge and great to visit while you’re in the area though.
playground overview
This playground boasts an impressive and unique play structure. It’s a sprawling wooden, multi-level ship like thing. It’s got so many entry and exit points that the fun can last a long time. There are balance bridges to cross, slides, and plenty of climbing options. Since so much of the play structure is raised, there is a lot of area underneath. That ground level space is shaded and makes a good spot for pretend play or hiding games.
To the immediate left of the entrance is the smaller kid play area. It also has a play structure, swings and a few wobble/spring ride on elements. A picnic shelter and few benches are also on this side. There is certainly a little more shade here too but overall this is not a well shaded park.
Back on the larger side there is a row of swings (with tire swing), two picnic shelters, some interactive puzzle elements and some kind of structure in the far right corner. I could not tell what that is or used to be.
This isn’t an easy place to keep your eye on the kids, however. The play structure is so wide and offers so many places to tuck away. You’ll need to stay vigilant to keep an eye on even a single child, much less multiple.
This park can get very busy but doesn’t feel especially crowded because there are so many elements for kids to spread out and enjoy. Do make a special note about the lack of shade here though. The main play area has no shade, except underneath the play structure and picnic shelters. In the summer time bring plenty of water and take breaks!
Overall, this is a great park and I wish was closer for us! Make a trip over, if you haven’t already.
PS –– There is a weekly Mommy & Me class that meets at this playground on Friday mornings at 10am. It was there during our visit and looked like an excellent activity for the younger crowd ––and a great way to meet other moms!
The leader is a former Horry County teacher and manages to pack songs, dancing and a nice craft into a 40 minute session – impressive! Check out their class listings on Facebook.
Check out our other park reviews too. We’ve covered almost all of them from NMB down to Pawley’s Island!
