park overview

Futrell Park is in a centrally located residential area very close to Broadway at the Beach and some of Myrtle Beach’s biggest attractions. This is a nice small neighborhood park that also boasts a small pond and some walking trails. The pond has a fountain and a little wooden deck and gazebo. There is also a very large grass field which the city has plans to turn into a splash pad in the near future.

There isn’t a lot of parking but the park never seems too busy so it isn’t difficult to find a spot. Once the splash pad is open that might be different!

The park is pretty open but there is a little cluster of tall pines right around the playground but they do not actually provide much shade for the playground during the hottest part of the day.

playground overview

The playground is in good condition. The ground cover is a large rubberized mat that is in good shape. The play structures show a little age in some places but are not unsafe in any way. The park is fully fenced but is not well shaded. There is also not many seating options for adults. I think there is one bench in the whole playground area.

The park lacks a bathroom but there is a drinking fountain. This is an easy park to keep an eye on multiple kids since it’s fenced and pretty small. This isn’t one to bring a picnic to though. There are two covered picnic areas but no tables. The wooden deck by the pond does have some benches with a pergola cover.

future splash pad site

The City of Myrtle Beach just announced that this park will receive part of a $120,000 investment to improve several area parks.

Construction of the splash pad will begin in the winter and should be completed by summer 2023. This is excellent news and we’re very excited to review it when it opens up!
