the best free things to do in myrtle beach at christmas
The months of November and December fill up with Christmas themed events so quickly! That is awesome but it can also put a hurting on your monthly budget if you don’t prioritize doing some of the free and super cheap things. We have rounded up the best free thing to do in Myrtle Beach at Christmas.
CARRIAGE RIDE AT MARKET COMMON | This is only offered on Tuesdays from 4–7pm but it’s a great little activity to pair with walking around to see the sleighs and a trip to Savannah’s Playground (no crowds in the off-season)!
HERE IS SOME GOOD TO KNOW INFO | The line starts at Dolce Lusso Spa (another good landmark is Tupelo Honey). Rides are quick, only about 7 minutes. And they are free but tips are encouraged! We got there at 3:45 and were the first in line but 3-4 other people had arrived within minutes of us so it’s likely you’ll encounter a little bit of a Iine regardless of when you go.
We grabbed a drink from Loleo (walking distance) then headed to Savannah’s Playground to enjoy it while it’s so deserted this time of year!
Winter Wonderland at the Beach | The walk through lights display is free.
Parades and Tree Lightings | They’re free!!!
MarshWalk Wonderland of Lights | The lights are free. Fridays–Sundays there are extra activities but the only one that costs anything is the barrel rides ($2 per ride).
Conway’s House Decoration Contest | We’re eagerly awaiting the announced winners so we can drive around to see them! Throw the kids in jammies and bring some hot chocolate for the ride and it’s a free light show!
Conway’s Live Windows Display | This is happening on December 7 in downtown Conway. Thursdays in Conway in December are slammed full of fun stuff happening. I’ve heard this live window display is one of the coolest things the city does.
Conway’s Gingerbread Contest | The gingerbread houses go on display starting December 7. They are setup inside Black Water Market.
Horry County Library Events | The HCM library branches have embraced the holiday season! Check our their calendar’s to pick a few fun and free activities.
Decorations and Tree at Broadway at the Beach | Broadway is all decked out for Christmas. Take a stroll to enjoy the tree and decorations. Be sure to walk over to Ripley’s to see their tree and the other large tree by Maragritaville.
CHRISTMAS AT LW PAUL LIVING HISTORY FARM | The farm celebrates Christmas on Dec 16 with lots of free fun for the family.
NATIVITY FEST | Christ the King Church in Pawleys Island is opening their doors for visitors to come see the beautiful nativity displays.
Christmas Movie Nights | CONWAY has outdoor Christmas Movies on Fridays. SURFSIDE BEACH is holding one on Dec 9 also.
Smaller Events at Local Churches & Neighborhoods | We can’t list all of these but we have some on our EVENTS PAGE and just pay attention to what is happening locally. Lots of churches and neighborhoods are holding smaller tree lightings, craft events, Santa visits, and more.
