This museum might surprise you –– it packs a punch and I’d rate it a 3.5 out of 5 for kid-friendliness. It is an easy activity in Georgetown right on Front Street. Here are our tips for the SC Maritime Museum (with kids).

HOURS: Mon–Sat, 11a–5p
BEST FOR: Kids 3+ will do best. They can enjoy the scavenger hunt and appreciate a lot of the photos and artifacts.

SUMMARY: A fairly small museum highlighting the marine heritage in SC including info on famous ships and ship wrecks, the slave passage from Africa, and other artifacts from coastal waters.
good to know info
SCAVENGER HUNT | There are two scavenger hunt options. One for younger kids that simply includes photos of some key pieces with a checkbox. Then one for older kids with written questions for them to hunt for answers to. At the end kids can pick a small prize from their prize box.
STROLLER FRIENDLY | The museum is easy to navigate with a stroller and has an elevator up to their 2nd floor.
CAN SUPPORT LEARNING ON MANY TOPICS | The museum covers a lot of ground and can lead to much deeper learning on topics such as: naval battles/history, transatlantic slave trade, megladon sea creatures, estuaries and the role coastal waters have played in SC history.
