To understand how Mermaid Adventure Swim offers the magic that they do you need to know about the owner and chief mermaid, Lynn Stone.

She is the secret sauce that makes any experience with her company so personal, meaningful and memorable.

Lynn has been a competitive swimmer since age 8 and teaching swim lessons since she was 14. She is also an elementary school teacher who just quit that day job to devote more time to her passion and this growing business!

And she’s a mom – her two kids are in high school and college. In fact, it was her daughter’s childhood mermaid fascination that planted the seed for this and now Lynn refers to it as a mother-daughter business because of how involved McKenna remains.

A lot of their business in the summertime is from our visiting friends. But there are 3 big things that Mermaid Adventure Swim offers Myrtle Beach locals. We recently got to experience one of them first-hand and would love to give you our honest review.

1. birthday party packages

Birthday Party Packages | Bottom line is this is a deal and a party your child’s friends won’t forget! The price is $200 for 6 swimmers to have 90 minutes of time swimming and playing in their tail.

WHAT IT INCLUDES | The first 60 minutes is a guided mermaid experience full of games, challenges, photos, etc. (It follows the same model as the mermaid adventure we highlight below.) The next 30 minutes are for free swimming which kids will be eager to do after they’ve gotten comfortable in the tail. The package also includes digital invites and themed treat bags for all guests.

UNSOLICITED THOUGHTS | This is a much better deal than most party rental places and you can avoid the hassle of food because you’re not supposed to eat before you swim, right!? Just get a cake for after swimming and call it done. PS – I hate b-day party planning, can you tell!?

2. swim lessons

SWIM LESSONS | Lynn is not only masterful in her knowledge of swim technique and instruction strategies but she is also an elementary educator, so she just knows how to work with kids! That is so important when you’re teaching a new and difficult skill like swimming.

AGES & PRICES | Swim lessons are open to kids as young as three and you can choose to do them private, as a sibling pair or just with another friend. Lessons are $30 for a 30 minute lesson or $250 for a package of 10. Prices do not increase for an additional person either but can’t go any larger than 2 students at a time.

WHAT MAKES THESE CLASSES UNIQUE | The goal is to have fun while learning to swim so they incorporate various games and activities. This keeps kids interested and excited while practicing those new skills.

LYNN’S TIPS WHEN STARTING SWIM LESSONS | When someone has been teaching swim lessons as long as Lynn Stone has then you need to ask for some tips. Here is what she had to say about how you can be prepared and support your child through their swim lessons.

private swim adventure

SWIM ADVENTURES | We recently did this and would love to tell you the tale of our time in the tail. (I just had to do that!)

BASICS | These are 60-minute guided adventures that squeeze in a lot of fun! Everyone will begin by selecting a beautiful tail and accessories (Hawaiian leis and princess crowns). Then it’s time to strike some mermaid poses for photos. After that it’s all water fun: swimming, mermaid tricks, and cute games.

WHO IS THIS BEST FOR | There were 9 participants in our swim adventure with widely different skill levels and ages. Lynn and the other instructor did an excellent job of picking up on each child’s comfort level and skills quickly. They seamlessly adjust all the elements to suit each participant while keeping the fun and energy high.

If you have a child who isn’t super comfortable in the water or doesn’t know how to swim yet then rest assured, this is safe and they’ll have fun! Swimmers are offered floaties or you can bring your own. And they’re given choices in how they want to do most activities (dive down, do underwater handstands and challenges, or stay above water).

HOW MANY CAN PARTICIPATE | This experience is $75 for 2 participants (so $37.50 each). It can only be booked in increments of 2 and each additional pair is $75.

LAST THOUGHTS | If you have a little water lover then they’ll flip for this. And even if your child is less experienced in the water but enjoys mermaids they’ll still have a blast. My daughter is in the later category but she enjoyed all the elements at her comfort level. The only thing she didn’t love was coming out of the pool with super wrinkly fingers. #mermaidproblems
