Christmas in Myrtle Beach: Winter Wonderland at the Beach

christmas in myrtle beach: Winter wonderland at the beach

Winter Wonderland at the Beach is one of the biggest lights shows in the Grand Strand. It should be on your list of activities for Christmas in Myrtle Beach. Here is some info on what to expect and tips for going with young kids.

quick facts

The website for the event has more info.

WHERE | The north end of the lights is at 9th Ave North in the Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion area. This is also where the Family Fun Zone is. The lights goes all the way down to 2nd Ave North. See the map below for a visual.

COST | Free!

WHEN | The lights will be on nightly from 6–9pm except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

MOM FACTS | Stroller friendly. Good for kids of all ages. Porta potties at Family Fun Zone.

THe lights

NO REAL START AND END PLACE | The lights stretch for almost a mile so it’s unlikely you’ll get through them all with kids. You can really jump in anywhere and still enjoy it but here are some things we did which worked well with young kids.

PARK CLOSER TO THE NORTH END | We parked around 7th Ave so we were close to the Family Fun Zone but we saved that for last.

DO THE LIGHTS FIRST | We walked south to enjoy a lot of the lights on the boardwalk while kids natural energy was highest. There are some great light arches and lots of Christmas characters along the route. Last year they had a family fun zone but that isn’t an element this year (except on Dec 1–3, see below).

SANDY LIGHT ARCH | At the very north end there is a long lights arch that is actually on the beach. The kids had the most fun going through this part because it really illuminates the sand to look like whatever color the lights are displaying.

family fun festival

Dec 1–3 | There are special events happening these nights! Things to expect: holiday drone light show, s’mores, Polar Express night, tree lighting, art walk, hot chocolate stand, and more.
