coastal themed gifts for kids
We’ve lived in places all over the southeast and we love digging into the local culture and ecosystem when we’re there. Living at the beach makes that even more fun and easy with beach-themed everything. Here are some of our favorite coastal themed gifts for kids –– some we have and some are currently under our tree!
things we have and love
I SAW IT FIRST: OCEAN | We’ve had this game for about a year and it is a family favorite. It is a large board of 300 of the most interesting and odd looking aquatic animals you can imagine. A player draws a little chip card and then everyone looks for that creature. The first person to spot it gets the chip. And the first person to 20 chips wins. But most of the time we forget the scorekeeping part and just have fun searching and learning the names of these odd animals.
AN ANTHOLOGY OF AQUATIC LIFE | I fell in love with this series when I spotted it in a gift shop in Boone, NC. Since then we’ve acquired a new one every year and this Aquatic Life version is the latest to add to our collection. It’s got beautiful photos and short but fascinating info about sea life.
Paint by Sticker Kids: Under the Sea | My six year old loves these and they’re excellent as road trip entertainment. Many different options including a mermaid one!
things we are getting for christmas
Ocean Bingo | This is in the kids Christmas present pile so we haven’t firsthand played with it yet. I am confident it’ll be a hit though. Bingo is an easy game to play and these illustrations are gorgeous! If you’re near the South Strand, Whimsy Roost in Georgetown carries this.
Find Me Adventures in the Ocean | There is a hardcover and paperback version. The sturdier hardcover is sold at Carolina Nature Nook and it’s where we picked up ours. It’s another Christmas gift for the kids. My daughter and I did some of the searches for 10 minutes in the store so I knew we had to grab it.
more options we love
MARSHES AND SWAMPS | This is another pick from Carolina Nature Nook. It’s a pretty thorough book with lots of info and illustrated photos. I know I’d learn a lot from it too! PS – Can’t find it on Amazon to link. Just head down to the Nook for this one. You’ll find 12 other things you want too 🙂
OCEAN SNAP & GO FISH | These are at CAROLINA NATURE NOOK and they sourced them from Australia! They’re beautiful and I’m so tempted to get them. I ended up getting Bingo instead but I can’t stop thinking about these so they may eventually be coming home with us.
