PARK OVERVIEW

Sanford Cox Community Park is a sweet little place tucked away in a quiet residential area. The address is Murrells Inlet but it’s getting quite close to Garden City. It sits on a dead end street right on the marsh between Atlantic Ave and Cypress Avenue.

playground features

The children’s playground area features a well maintained play structure, a set of swings, and a set of hanging bars. The play structure has five climbing options that seem best for kids 5+ and two slides. There are also features under the structure for kids to explore. Everything sits on a cushy bed of mulch in a well shaded area.

Additionally there is a boardwalk that goes out over the marsh with a covered area at the beginning and end of the walkway.

WHAT MAKES IT A FAVORITE

Our favorite things about this park is it’s size. It’s small so it is easy to keep an eye on multiple kids at one time. The shade situation is so welcome on hot summer days. Another bonus is having the natural beauty of the marsh to explore when kids need to switch gears.

Other things to note about this park is the potty situation (a clean portable) and the parking (small lot and shoulder parking along non-busy road). During a recent visit in Feb 2022 the park was not crowded but there was nearby construction on a new home and the parking lot itself was closed but street parking was easy.

Overall this playground in Murrells Inlet is excellent to have in your repertoire, especially if you’re looking for something small, shaded, and with the added benefit of nature to enjoy and explore.
