east bay park in georgetown
East Bay Park in Georgetown is a wide open green space that lines the shores of the Great Pee Dee River. If you’re on a day trip to Georgetown then it’s where you want to go when the kids need a chance to stretch their legs. The historic district is just a few blocks away and the serene Morgan Park is also very nearby.
The park features tennis courts, a disc golf course, a dog park, a walking trail, and a few workout stations. There is also a covered picnic area and a few charcoal grills.
playground features
The playground features one large structure that has long ramps running all the way to the taller side. It’s a good setup for all ages and the ramp is fun for lots of running games like chase and tag. The ground cover here is rubberized and in good condition. The covered picnic tables and a bleacher section with some shade is nearby to help keep visibility on kids. The structure is long and gets tall so it can be hard to keep an eye on them at times.
The swing area is also a bit far away from the play structure. It is in complete sun and has sand ground cover (with grass growing through). The swings do not feel super inviting on hot and sunny days so hopefully your kids won’t drag you over there!
There is a portable potty across the parking lot and for a park this size it’s a little surprising that there isn’t a permanent restroom. The park could use a little more maintenance and beautification in certain areas but I’d have no concerns over equipment safety.
area info & what else to do in georgetown
There is a cute Little Library house at the park which is regularly maintained (we were there when a volunteer was trading books out one day). And the area of the park is just beautiful. The surrounding houses lend a bit of a Charleston vibe and you can appreciate that this is a place with a deep and rich history.
This is a great stop on a day trip to Georgetown or on a drive back up from Charleston!
