Family Therapy in Myrtle Beach That Actually Gets It: Thornwell 🌴

October 29, 2025

Let’s face it—these are challenging times for families. Between the pressures of work, school, the economy, and just life, it’s easy to feel stretched thin. Many parents are juggling more than ever, and even when things look “fine” on the outside, it can feel heavy on the inside. That’s where therapy can make a world of difference.

If you’ve been thinking about getting extra support for yourself or your family, Thornwell is doing incredible work right here in Myrtle Beach. They’re a nonprofit that believes therapy shouldn’t be something you wait for until things fall apart—it’s something that helps you stay strong and connected, no matter what life throws your way.

Thornwell’s Building Families Program is family therapy for anyone raising kids ages 3–17—no major crisis required. Parenting is hard, even on a good day, and this program exists to make it a little easier.

Whether you’re dealing with big emotions, behavioral struggles, or just trying to bring more peace to your home, the Building Families Program helps you find your footing again. Therapy can happen in your home in Myrtle Beach or virtually, making it flexible enough to fit real family life.

Danielle Coons, Thornwell’s Family Specialist in Myrtle Beach, is ready to welcome new families! She’s down-to-earth, experienced, and passionate about making therapy accessible to everyone. Danielle offers in-home and telehealth sessions and is also willing to partner with schools, pediatricians, and community groups to make sure families get the support they need.

There is a sliding scale fee for all families, and families with Medicaid are seen for free. Because mental health support should never depend on what’s in your wallet.

Danielle and the rest of the Thornwell team help families work through challenges big and small. It’s not about judgment—it’s about learning practical tools and building stronger relationships. You can contact Danielle at DCoons@thornwell.org.

Families often work on:

  • Anxiety, ADHD, and emotional regulation
  • Parenting strategies that actually work
  • Co-parenting and blended family challenges
  • Grief, loss, or major life transitions
  • Behavioral issues and communication struggles
  • Support for foster, adoptive, or grandparent-led families

Sessions are interactive and personal, often including games, visuals, and hands-on activities to keep kids engaged and learning.

Why Moms Love Thornwell

Because this kind of therapy gets what modern parenting feels like. It’s warm, real, and rooted in the idea that families deserve to feel supported, not judged. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis—just a willingness to show up and grow together.

Therapy isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign that you’re doing everything you can to care for your family’s emotional health—and that’s something to be proud of.

Thornwell is now accepting new families. There’s never been a better time to invest in your family’s well-being. Because therapy isn’t just for when things go wrong—it’s how families grow stronger together. 🌿
