From Living Room to Legacy: The Woman Behind The Learning Station

December 14, 2025

Every great community institution starts somewhere—and for Donna Jensen, it started in her living room. After moving to South Carolina from New Jersey in the late 1980s, Donna took a job in early childhood education and quickly realized something was missing: safety, standards, and respect for the work of caring for young children. Rather than accept the status quo, she trusted her instincts and built the kind of childcare program she believed families deserved. What began as a small in-home program grew into years of leadership, vision, and intentional growth—and ultimately into The Learning Station, now one of the most respected childcare organizations along the Grand Strand.

Donna’s success didn’t come from heart alone (though there’s plenty of that). It came from understanding that excellent childcare must also be a well-run business. Today, The Learning Station is a thriving, family-led organization with over 100 employees and multiple campuses—each thoughtfully designed to support children and parents alike. From live classroom cameras and inclusive supplies to carefully planned outdoor spaces, TLS has built a reputation for transparency, innovation, and care.

Today, Donna is the CEO, operating remotely while her family helps lead the company. Her son Jacob Jensen serves as Executive Director, her son Jordan helps manage facilities, and her daughter-in-law Alicia directs one of their schools. Her husband, Jeff, has been instrumental in the business as well. With expansion plans underway and a legacy rooted in excellence, Donna’s story is a reminder of what happens when one woman raises the bar—not just for her own family, but for an entire community.
