Gardens by the Sea Park is an adorable little spot right next to the water in central Myrtle Beach. Parking logistics here are difficult (see our notes below on that). It’s definitely worth checking out though if you’re already nearby at the beach access point or visiting another local destination.
ADDRESS: 5506 N Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach
FEATURES: Fenced in. Portable potty. Difficult parking in summer, easy in winter. Picnic tables & grill.
HOURS: Always open.
SUMMARY: Great spot if you’re already in the area or can visit during an off peak time.
park overview
Gardens by the Sea is a beautiful spot with a playground, small covered seating area, picnic tables and grill, portable potty, water feature, and decorative plants. The Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club maintains the park and you’ll see many stone pavers in honor/memorial to their members.
This is a great spot for tourists since it’s easiest to navigate on foot from nearby resorts and hotels. The park connects to a .7 mile walking trail with beach visibility and those quirky little beach front rooms (houses?).
playground overview
The playground equipment was overhauled in 2021 and is in excellent shape. The pirate ship climbing structure, complete with slides and other balance-testing features, is small but will entertain kids for a little while. The park also has a couple of cute little wobble dolphins and a saucer swing. The ocean is visible from almost any point in the park so it’s truly ideal if you want to f-e-e-l like you’re at the beach.
The ground cover is mulch and the whole area is fenced in minus a few entrance/exit points. Additionally there are a couple of well maintained portable potties and a water fountain.
If you’re looking for a spot to bring your lunch then know there are a couple of picnic tables and a grill nearby. Beware there is no shade at the playground but a small covered seating area offers a small reprieve on the hottest/sunniest days.
NOTES ON PARKING | There are only 3-4 parking spaces by the park so don’t count on snagging one of those. During the winter/off-season we’ve always used the parking lot at the hotel to the right of the park. They have a gate but it’s never been down when we’ve been there and there are usually a few other cars parked there. I wouldn’t plan on using that lot in the summertime, however.
