Huntington Beach & Myrtle Beach State Park Programs for Kids
state park programs for kids
We LOVE our state parks and we spend a lot of time there. We love just being there to enjoy the views but we also love the programming. We’ve done a few and have notes on those plus links to where to find the list of state park programs for kids.
Programming changes FREQUENTLY
The parks have programming that differs a little bit depending on the time of year. They’ll obviously have more options during the summer and less during the winter. Many of the programs are the same but the frequency and day/time will change.
ATALAYA | You can tour Atalaya on your own but if you want a guide then check the program schedule. Note this does require an additional $2 admission unless you’re an annual passholder and then you’ll need to show your passport.
ALLIGATOR TOUR | We’ve done this one and loved it. It’s very kid-friendly. It’s basically a walk down Straight Road from Atalaya toward the freshwater and brackish water ponds. A guide gives facts about alligators and you try to spot one!
TURTLES’ TIME OUT & SPINELESS WONDER | These two are on our list and we’ll update here when we do them!
myrtle beach state park
MBSP has a great section of self-led activities! A couple of programs that tend to stay in the rotation are NATURE STORY TIME, NATURE ART, andFEEDING TIME.
They have fun seasonal/holiday themed events. In October they’ll have “Batty over Bats” which we did and loved. And sometimes they’ll partner with other local nature centers for events. A fav is the Flight of the Birds of Prey (Nov 19 at 1pm).
turtle nest inventories
Perhaps the coolest educational opportunity in the parks are the turtle nest inventories. They happen from August-early October. We wrote all about that here.
Educational and very cool. It’s free with park admission.
