Kid-Friendly Day Trip from Myrtle Beach: Boone Hall Plantation

kid-friendly day trip from myrtle beach: boone hall plantation

Another day trip idea for ya… This one is just down the road in Mt Pleasant. Boone Hall makes a great destination any day of the week but they often do special seasonal events. Would be especially great to plan a trip to coincide with one of those! Here are our tips for this kid-friendly day trip from Myrtle Beach to Boone Hall Plantation.

BOONE HALL PLANTATION

HOURS | M–Sat, 9a–5p; Sun, 12–5p

ADMISSION | $28 adults; $12 kids (ages 6–12); kids 5 and under FREE.

SUMMARY | Beautiful, great job with the history and making the place very experiential.

KID-FRIENDLY | Stroller-friendly, plenty of spots to rest, tractor tour and self-guided tours all great for kids. House tour isn’t long but still may test their patience a bit.

good to know info

ONE OF THE AREA’S MOST POPULAR PLANTATIONS | Boone Hall is one of the area’s most visited plantations. It will likely be crowded on any given day. But the staff does an excellent job of routing people in and assigning them to a house-tour time slot.

YOU’LL TOUR THE HOUSE FIRST | Once you get in and parked you’ll visit the guest services house to get a house-tour time. The house tour is pretty short (20-25 minutes) and only covers 3 inner rooms and the courtyard area. Older kids can probably make it through but younger ones could get impatient.

PLENTY OF AREA’S FOR SELF-EXPLORATION | The grounds has plenty to explore. The Black History in America exhibit (in the slave cabins) is great. We skipped the Gullah Presentation but that is supposed to be a guest favorite. I don’t think my kids would’ve hung in for that.

KIDS SCAVENGER HUNT | This is fun and had the kids very excited and engaged most of the time. There are things to find all over the property.

TRACTOR RIDE | We saved this for last and that was a good move. The ride is about 20-25 minutes and goes all over the property to see Boone Hall’s continued farming operations. They produce a ton of food and even have contracts with large national grocery chains in addition to what they grow for their own events and to sell at their on-site market.

other info & thoughts

HOW LONG TO PLAN ON BEING THERE | We moved fairly quickly. We were there ~2.5 hours. That was plenty to experience and see what we wanted to. There is a small cafe on site with some limited food options and sweets.

WHAT ELSE TO DO IN MT PLEASANT | We have some favorite restaurants in Mt Pleasant that are nearby: Five Loaves Cafe and Square Onion both have great food. Note that Square Onion is outdoor dining only (order at a pickup window so no inside element at all). There is a courtyard where you can eat. And there is a small little park walking distance from Square Onion.
