morgan park in georgetown, sc

ADDRESS: East Bay Street. There isn’t an exact address but if you go to East Bay park then continue past it and you’ll see the blue Morgan Park sign and a parking area.

FEATURES: Non-playground park. Picnic shelters, boardwalk, access to Winyah & Sampit Rivers.

HOURS: 7am–11pm

SUMMARY: This is a beautiful and serene space to enjoy nature and learn some about the history of Fort Winyah. Kids likely won’t want to spend too much time here unless you let them wade into the river or pack a picnic/snacks.

overview & features

Although this was the site that housed a fort there are no remains of the structure left. There are some historical placards and other info about artifacts that have been found on the site. Mostly it’s just a beautiful area to explore the natural surroundings of the river and coastal forest.

Parking is easy and you’ll find a short boardwalk straight ahead. Cross that to a short trail and then it’ll open up to the shore of the Winyah and Sampit Rivers.

There are a few benches along the shore and a covered picnic shelter area. The walk is short and not difficult at all but also not stroller friendly due to branches and uneven terrain.

If you go then it’s likely the kids will want to wade in the water so be prepared for that!
