the best art summer camp in myrtle beach: studio 43*19

Studio 43*19 is an amazing mom-owned art (creativity) studio for kids and adults in the Grand Strand. They focus on expression, having fun, and enjoying the process –– and less on the picture-perfect outcome. That is exactly the kind of vibe I want my kids around! We’re sharing what Studio 43*19 has in store for local families this summer.

get to know the owner, michele

Michele is the owner and “chief lover of creativity” but she wasn’t always this way. She spent most of her adult life feeling like art was too stuffy, serious and pretentious. She was busy working as a paramedic and caring for her 2 kids so art was something she didn’t have time for.

LIFESTYLE OF CREATIVITY | Then one day she realized the beauty of creating without an end goal in mind and now she says creativity is her lifestyle. She began by running a mobile art studio out of her garage. Michele did that for 10 years, offering classes to churches, small groups, etc. before taking the next step in her business… Opening Studio 43*19.

THE STUDIO OPENED | In June of 2020 Michele moved the mobile art studio into the space she has today. It was a leap of faith but the studio continues to find success and Michele expands her offerings each year. The name is a reference to Isaiah 43:19 from the Bible which hits home for Michele because this is the new thing that God gave her to change her life.

what does a camp day look like?

Creativity rules the day here. The studio is well stocked with the raw materials to make almost anything happen. When we were there recently there were kids making dried pasta jewelry, designing a homemade board game, concocting a herb salad (with actual food), painting ceramic figurines, plus the standard drawing, painting, coloring, cutting and crafting.

Camps don’t have themes but each week there will be new materials to work with and prompts to invite creativity. Many projects focus on upcycling and recycling. Materials will include vinyl records, cabinet doors, frames, mosaics, cardboard and more!
