Things To Do With Kids in Georgetown SC: Visit a Cat Cafe!

things to do with kids in georgetown sc: visit a cat cafe!

The only cat cafe in the entire Grand Strand is down in Georgetown and it’s just lovely. We recently visited and enjoyed getting to know a few kitties while enjoying our beverages of choice. Here is a little info about our experience at the Purr & Pour Cat Cafe.

ADDRESS: 908 Front St, Georgetown

COST: For 1 hour of cat time & 1 beverage per ticket it’s $10.50/adults & $6.50/kids

HOURS: Tues–Sat, 12–5p & Sun, 1–5p

BEST FOR: Anyone that loves cats! As long as kids can be gentle. The cats do not like to be picked up so kids will need to be able to follow that rule.

how it works & what to expect

A cat cafe is a place of refuge for shelter cats to await their forever homes. The cafe works with St Frances Animal Center to help these kitties get more socialization while awaiting their adoption.

PURCHASE A 1-HOUR VISIT | You can enjoy a visit buy purchasing a 1-hour visit with the cats. It Includes a ticket for 1 drink in the cat cafe (coffee, tea, beer, wine, sparkling water, juice boxes) and there are also food options for purchase.

THE RULES | The cats don’t like to be picked up so that is one rule and simply being gentle and not startling the cats. There are plenty of toys around the cafe to use to play with the cats.

THE CAFE | The cafe part is through a separate inner door. It is a no-cat zone with seating also.

BOOK IN ADVANCE | It’s a good idea to book in advance. The cafe has a capacity limit and we saw several walk-ups get turned aways because they were at max capacity.

our personal experience

My kids have not been around a lot of animals and tend to be quite reluctant to engage with them. They were both a little overwhelmed initially but it didn’t take more than a few minutes for them to get comfortable with their surroundings and realize the cats are harmless. They were soon picking up toys to play with them and sneaking in rubs. And they, of course, loved their juice boxes.

The owner and volunteers are so kind and do an excellent job of making the space safe and comfortable for the cats and visitors. It’s an activity we fully recommend next time you’re down in Georgetown!
