Jack’s Surf Camp and Board Rentals have been serving locals and tourists for 12 years. Jack and his team are among the best when it comes to surfing, paddleboarding, and kayaking services. They’re kicking off their highly regarded 5-day summer surf camp season on June 5. My kids are still a little young for the full experience but we got a preview and all the details you’ll need!

SUMMER SURF CAMP DETAILS

WHERE DOES JACK’S SURF CAMP HAPPEN? | Jack’s Surf Shack is to the left of the Springmaid Pier in Central MB. There is plenty of parking in a nearby garage and lots of street parking too. Use this address to guide you: 3200 F S Ocean Blvd.

BEST FOR AGES | Jack’s Summer Surf Camps are best for children ages 7–16. Attendees are grouped by age range and skill level to keep everyone safe, having fun and learning new skills.

WHEN DO THEY HAPPEN | Camps are 5-days per week and begin June 5th and run until September 1st. That is 13 opportunities to get in on this surfing summer fun.

CAMP HOURS & PRICE | The half-day option runs from 9a–12p and cost $299. The full-day option is from 9a–2p and cost $399 (note Friday’s camp ends at 12pm). Code MOM10 get’s 10% off camp or any of their other services/rentals (must book by June 30).

WHAT DO KIDS NEED TO GET STARTED | Send a bag with a towel, a refillable water bottle, some sunscreen, and a packed lunch (or extra $$ for the meal plan option).

RATIOS & SAFETY NOTES | If the idea of dropping your child off to spend all day in the ocean without you nearby is a little scary then the following info should help set your mind at ease. The student-to-instructor ratio at 4:1 and all instructors are CPR, first-aid and AED certified with background-checks and an extensive training program that has kept thousands of kids safe over their 12 year history. Weather and surf conditions are closely monitored and action is quickly taken to move campers out of the water or under shelter.

WHAT ELSE CAMPERS GET | Use of a surfboard all week plus a rash guard to keep, group photo, camp highlight video, a “surf-tificate” and more. Can read more about camps here.

WHAT DOES A SURF CAMP DAY LOOK LIKE?

Camp days begin at 9am. Parents simply drop kids off at the Springmaid Pier by the Doubletree Hotel in central MB. Parents/guardians need to stay for the first 30 minutes on Monday to sign waivers and understand the policies.

Campers will have a solid mix of time in the water, land coaching, breaks for water and snacks/lunch, and sheltered games if surf is ever too rough or weather is a factor.

There is a lot of info to cover! Campers will come away knowing the fundamentals of surfing, how to pick the right wave, how to read a surf forecast, ocean awareness, surfing etiquette, rip currents, all about surfboards (care, shapes, sizes, repair techniques, etc), wave-riding techniques and so much more.
