Learning to swim is a rite of passage that cannot be ignored when you live at the beach. We rounded up the best options for kid swim lessons in Myrtle Beach to make this task easier for you. 

north myrtle beach & Little River

MERMAID ADVENTURE SWIM is probably the option with the most flair but they mean business when it comes to swim lessons too! We just did a full review of their mermaid experiences and made a few notes about owner & instructor Lynn’s experience.

PRIVATE & GROUP LESSONS | They offer private and group lessons from beginner to stroke technique for the competitive swimmer starting at $25. Their lessons are offered year-round and are designed to meet the student where they are at in their development through fun and engaging lessons from experienced instructors. 

OTHER SWIM EXPERIENCES & PHOTO SHOOTS | And if your little girl or boy is interested in mermaids or sharks, you need to check out their mermaid and shark swim experiences and beach photoshoots using swimmable tails!

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH AQUATICS offers group and private swim lessons to members and non-members. They offer classes for infants and toddlers where parents join their child in the water for assimilation and skill review. Preschool classes are for children ages 3-5 and youth swim classes are for kids 5.5 and older. 

GROUP LESSONS | Check their website regularly for updates to the schedule. Sessions usually include 4 meetings (2 days per week for 2 weeks) at $22-38 per session.

PRIVATE LESSONS | Private lessons are scheduled through Aquatics Director, Judy Childers who can be contacted at (843) 281-3743 or jachilders@nmb.us. Rates are $30 for member and $40 for non-member for 30 minute lessons. Those can be scheduled at the parent’s convenience but must be conducted at the NMB Aquatics Center for liability reasons.

LifeQuest Swim & Fitness in Little River offers private and semi-private lessons only. Call the front desk at (843) 399-2582 for more info.

PRIVATE LESSONS | Members and non-members need to complete a form at their front desk to begin the process of scheduling with the swim instructor. Private non-member pricing for a single session is $50. Packages of six lessons are available for $40/per lesson and 12 lessons for $33/per lesson (non-member pricing).

The City of Myrtle Beach operates two recreation centers with indoor pools and both offer aquatics programming. Both centers offer group lessons that last four weeks and meet twice per week for a total of eight sessions at $26 for city residents. Classes are 30 minutes long and available for infants and preschool aged children.

PRIVATE LESSONS | Many of the instructors at the two rec centers offer private lessons to individuals. To discuss private lessons contact the individual instructor directly. 

The CLAIRE CHAPIN EPPS YMCA offers group and private lessons year-round. 

GROUP LESSONS | Group swim lessons are available for parent-child pairs, pre-school aged children and school aged children. Classes meet one day per week for nine weeks for 30 minute sessions. Member pricing is $50 and non-member is $75. There are various stages of progression to ensure children learn assimilation, safety, and skills before advancing to the next level. 

PRIVATE LESSONS | The YMCA also offers private and semi-private lessons by contacting the Aquatics Director, Autumn Finney at afinney@coastalcarolinaymca.org. A request form is also available on the website. Non-member rates for four sessions are $132. Packages are available for sessions of eight or twelve.

ISR Coastal is brand new to the area and much needed. It stands for Infant Swimming Resource or Infant Self Rescue and it is for kids as young as 6 months. ISR Coastal will work one-on-one with kids between the ages of 6 months and 6 years old.

Conway Sports & Fitness Center offers group lessons and competitive swim team options. The schedule is available online and ranges in price from $25-$35. Classes meet twice weekly for 3 weeks and accommodate kids from toddler up to advanced. 

south strand

TIDELANDS HEALTHPOINT CENTER serves the community through group and private lessons but doesn’t offer a set schedule for either. Instead it’s best to contact Jenni Giltmier at (866) 843-3526 ext. 6 or at jgiltmier@tidelandshealth.org.

If you have between 3-5 kids you can create your own small group for lessons. Price will vary depending on the number of children but will generally be between $20-35 per half-hour session. Or you can call and add your name to the list and when enough people express interest a small group for lessons will be formed.

The Georgetown YMCA also offers group and private swim lessons.

other Individual lessons

THE COASTAL AQUATICS CLUB makes their coaches available for private lessons. Contact Coach Fabio da Silva at (843) 503-3152. The rate is $170 for five 30 minute lessons. The location and time can be arranged at your convenience.

Sue Brunson is a local teacher with a lot of happy clients. She does private lessons mainly through word of mouth. Poke around on Facebook and you’ll be able to find her. Send her a PM to inquire about her availability. Expect to pay $60 for a 30 minute lesson and most kids need about 6 lessons.

Gracelyn B is another individual giving private lessons. She’s located in Conway and is lifeguard and CPR certified. She can be reached at (843) 333-5868 and charges $25 per lesson. She has a booking system through Zoho at this link

Okay. It might be too soon to jump into competition but if you’ve got a little fish that now loves the water then you may need this info. The Grand Strand offers a few competitive swim clubs.
