It may be easy to dismiss Georgetown because of it’s location on the far south side but it’s a wonderful town that does Christmas so well! Here are a few things to keep on your list if you want to experience Georgetown, SC at Christmas.

what to see & do

We didn’t make it to Georgetown until the end of their festivities this year but I kept a close eye on all of them! All their city-sponsored events are over but it’s still a beautiful place to visit and walk around if you have time.

Holiday Magic at the Kaminski House | The lawn of the Kaminski House is gorgeous without lights and even more amazing with them. You can still catch a tour of the Kaminski House while it’s decorated for Christmas through Dec 23. They have a lot events throughout December and the best for families is the Family Night. It includes a scavenger hunt through the house, hot chocolate and cookies on the front porch, a trolley ride through the town with a reading of the Polar Express, and general enjoyment of the lights of the lawn. Be sure to mark your calendar for this event next year!!!

FRONT STREET | Front Street has some great shops to find last-minute gifts. Plus you can visit the tree at Francis Marion Park and the Harborwalk while it’s all decked out. Some of our fav shops are Whimsy Roost, Waterfront Books, and Black Mingo Outfitters.

Historic Homes Decorated | The historic homes are a staple of Georgetown and many of them have beautiful decorations up this time of year. It’s worth a self-guided drive or walk around town to see a few.

MUSEUMS | Georgetown boasts an impressive 5 museums. The Maritime Museum is a favorite and all the others are on our list, especially the Rice Museum and the Georgetown County Museum.

EVENTS TO KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR NEXT YEAR | They have a tree lighting, parade and boat parade, ice skating, and evening sip & shops. Some of the more unique things they do include a yuletide tour of historic homes, ice skating and visiting “Santa’s Workshop” in the Rice Museum clock tower!

impressive private display: Santa land!!!

A follower just alerted about this place and it looks amazing! It’s at 429 Paradise Lane in Georgetown. It contains over 100,000 lights in a walk-through format and Santa visits for anyone who cares to partake. We don’t have a lot of firsthand info on this place but here is an old article with a few details.
