Free Myrtle Beach Activity: Finding the Conway Critters

free myrtle beach activity: finding the conway critters

Finding the Conway Critters has been on our list since last summer! We have found most of them while doing other adventures in Conway but I haven’t pulled it all together to share yet. So, here we go. This is a great free Myrtle Beach area activity –– Here is some info about finding the Conway Critters.

no clude what we're talking about?

Conway has a very cute and very walkable downtown and riverwalk area. The city wanted to offer something that was free and kid-friendly and also enhanced the beauty and helped people explore more of historic Conway. The city partnered with CCU to have 8 bronze statues of animals that are native to the area.

There is also a book and coloring book to accompany a critter hunt. Ask for those at City Hall or the Conway Visitors Center.

where are they? how do we go about this?

To make it extra fun and give kids a visual reminder of what you’re looking for you can create a little checklist for them to carry around. Or if kids are old enough to read then have them make a list by writing the animal. Here is what you’re looking for:

Maggie the Squirrel

Augustus the Alligator

Sweet Pea the Rabbit

Maisie the Mouse

Gaston the Frog

Timmy the Turtle

Beauregard the Bear

Ollie the Owl

These are all pretty close together but little legs tire easily so I’d suggest moving the car at least once. Here is what we suggest…

START AROUND 4TH STREET | You’ll find the squirrel, alligator, and rabbit all nearby. The squirrel is in front of the visitors center (5th & Main), the alligator is on the sidewalk by Conway Methodist Church, and the rabbit is in Kingston Park.

WALK TOWARD CITY HALL | You’ll find two more by city hall. The mouse is out front and the frog is by the fountain next to city hall.

If your kids are older then you can keep walking to find the rest but this is where we recommend moving the car to prevent meltdowns on the walk back to your car.

HEAD DOWN TO THE RIVERWALK | The bear is situated directly underneath the bridge and the owl is at the end of the riverwalk (near Chanti’s Pizza).

TIMMY THE TURTLE IS MISSING | He was stolen from his perch last summer and I don’t believe he’s been recovered. Not sure what plans the city has for this but for the time being our search will be incomplete 🙁

what else to do in conway

You’ll be very close to Riverfront Park so that is a good choice but you can also check out the quaint and well-shaded Sherwood Forest or the baby/toddler-friendly Lady Bug Park

Or stop by and let the kids pick out a new toy from Small Town Toys.
