fall things at the ymca you need
to take advantage of

The YMCA is a well-known organization but the depth and breadth of what they offer the community can be too easily overlooked. We are lucky to have a strong 3-branch YMCA system that rises to the occasion in meeting the needs of local families. Here are all the things at the YMCA you need to take advantage of this fall (and beyond).

youth athletics

This (and the gym facilities) are what the YMCA is most known for. All three branches offer youth sports and programming.

These are still registering for the fall and beyond: flag football, winter basketball, swimming, homeschool swim & gym, and Y Runners.

Football & Basketball Programming

Myrtle Beach Fall Football | See details in graphic above or at hyperlink. Benefits: fun and exciting non-contact and continuous action sport that builds athletic ability while teaching life lessons in teamwork.

Myrtle Beach Winter Basketball | Opening soon. See more info in graphic above or hyperlink.

Swimming

Swimming at all three branches | The YMCA has a carefully designed and recently retooled program that progresses kids in 7 week sessions. Each session has a continuum of skills to master as kids gain confidence in the water and learn critical safety skills. The next session is not announced yet but check back here for that info.

Home School Swim & Gym

The Tidelands Health Georgetown YMCA & Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA are both offering a year-round program for homeschooled or virtual learning students. Kids ages 5–14 can come once a week to enjoy new forms of exercise, games, and making new friends. Book sessions in 4-week sets to accommodate other plans/travel. See more here.

Y Runners

Offered at the Tidelands Health Georgetown branch | Y Runners is for kids ages 5–14 to want intentional and individual training to improve endurance and running technique. Practice happens twice per week for one hour beginning in November. There are 3 races in Nov–Dec. Registration is open now and ends Oct 19.

help for adults (and fun for kids)

Parents Night Out | Once a month you can drop your kids off at the YMCA for fun and affordable childcare! Hours are generally 5–9pm and cost is $15 per child for members and $40 for non-members.

Kids will play games, craft, swim, watch movies and enjoy dinner and a snack.

Schools Out Camp | When school is out kids need a place to go and parents need the help! Thankfully the YMCA has programming to fit the bill. With fall break coming, it is time to book it now. Available at all three branches.

Jumpstart Preschool at the YMCA | Available in Myrtle Beach, this program is designed for young kids to learn foundational skills in a safe and loving environment.

The core focus is on developing a child’s self-esteem and self-worth through exploration, asking questions and problem solving.

fun family-friendly events

Trick-or-Treating at Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA | Oct 31, 5–7pm.

We did this last year and LOVED it. The whole branch (inside) is decorated and kids visit 20 different doors for a different treat or prize. It includes fun and cool light displays, music and general spooktacular (but not too spooky) fun!

Weekly Farmers Market | K-Bar Farm (SC’s only elderberry farm) is setup at the Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA every Thursday, 9a–1p.

Thanks to the YMCA of Coastal Carolina for their partnership and support of families in the Grand Strand. Their mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Join us in supporting our local YMCA in order to fund the important work they do.
