top 10 myrtle beach activities this summer
We had an incredible summer. We stayed busier than ever with lots of Grand Strand exploring, some fun day trips and lots of family visits. I wanted to recap our top 10 Myrtle Beach activities from this summer. Many of them are things that can be repeated next year so be sure to save this for future reference!
#10 – THE SPLASH PAD IN GEORGETOWN
My love for Georgetown grows each time we’re down there. And now we love it even more since we’ve been to the splash pad at Ben Cooper Park! That was a fun day for us. We drove down and visited Morgan Park, East Bay Park and Ben Cooper all before 10am! We stopped in for a quick bite at Aunny’s and went back to the splash pad once the water was turned on for the day. Read about it here!
#9 – WACCAMAW NECK LIBRARY HERB GARDEN
We have not maximized our libraries like we should. I know that will change once the weather turns cooler. One day we stopped by the Waccamaw Neck Library in Pawleys Island and we were so pleasantly greeted by the most beautiful herb garden! We took our time tasting all the mint varieties and just enjoying this simple beauty. If you’re nearby then stop in! See more about it from our reel on IG.
#8 – FARMERS MARKETS
We’ve gotten to know so many of our awesome vendors this year. We love going to the market at Surfside and down in Pawleys Island. We haven’t made it to Valor, NMB or Conway’s market yet but thankfully the markets will run for quite a few more weeks. We did a whole farmers market post here!
#7 – NEIGHBORHOOD ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Building and investing in friendships is very important in this stage of motherhood. We moved here with a group of 25 adults to plant a new church so we’re blessed to have some great friends there. But when it comes to friends my motto is “the more, the merrier”!
We love reaching out to neighbors, getting to know the parents of the kids in our children’s class, and generally meeting people when we’re out and about! Recently we teamed up with our friends who own the best ice cream shop in the Grand Strand (aka Painter’s Ice Cream) and had a little ice cream social for neighbors and friends. It was a blast for everyone, especially the kids who got to serve the ice cream and collect some tips. Give it a try sometime!!!
#6 – ZERO GRAVITY AT BROADWAY THEATER
I thoroughly enjoyed this show and so did the kids. We wrote about it here. The coolest part for me was seeing my kids in this new environment. Due to COVID restrictions and their young age, we have not been attending events at venues like this. It made me so happy to see them sitting in their nice bucket seats with their attention on the stage, giggling and watching the performance.
#5 – HULA SHOW
We saw this early in the season before the show started drawing so much attention. It was incredible and made even better for us because we had family in town staying at one of the beach rental houses right at 3rd Ave N, where the show was taking place. We were able to walk right out and setup our chairs for a great spot. See our IG reel on that here.
#4 – marshwalk mornings
The Marshwalk is much more peaceful during the morning hours and in the off-season. During the summer we love to head over to Brown Fox for an iced latte and frozen hot chocolate for the kids. Then we’ll either camp out there or drive over to Belin UMC where you can enjoy an excellent inlet view. The kids and I loved sitting on the concrete wall and watching boats come in and out while we finished our drinks. We did a reel about this on IG too.
#3 – turtle nest inventory
We stumbled on this activity while at the HBSP Nature Center one day. It was so lovely and informative and just felt like the kind of thing you should do if you live at the beach! These events are not promoted but we wrote about some ways you can learn about them here.
#2 – summer lights: art by night
We went to Summer Lights twice this year and both times it was with family. We took my parents the first time and it was also their first ever visit to Brookgreen. We went back a few weeks later with my sister and her kids. It was also their first visit and the cousins had so much fun running around together. That made it all feel extra special. We wrote about our experience and tips here!
#1 – SUMMER evenings on the beach
The top thing we did this summer was spend a few quiet and easy evenings on the beach. I had a goal of getting to the beach once a week this summer and we did pretty good at that up until July. It just became too hot to be out there long during the day. So we transitioned to late afternoon/evening beach trips. We’ll continue evening beach trips into early October because we’re in denial about winter coming. #longlivesummer
