things to do in the south strand
The South Strand is home base for us. We love it down here so its understandable that we’ll spend most of our time here. For the record the South Strand encompasses Surfside Beach, Garden City Beach, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield, Pawleys Island, and Georgetown.

SHOPPING
We have some great local shops and shopping centers. We have a post about the best shopping in Pawleys Island here. And Georgetown has some standouts too: Monkees of Georgetown and Whimsy Roost are our two can’t miss.
educational & historic sites
There is a lot of history in this area. A few main things you’ll want to explore are:
Huntington Beach State Park | It has Atalaya Castle, several programming options and the Nature Center.
Brookgreen Gardens | It has botanical gardens, a small zoo, excursions, self-guided walks and many events and programs throughout the year.
Freewoods Farm | This is one of the most authentic and original farms you will find in the area. We loved our self-guided tour. Read about it and plan your own trip!

We love the programming at Brookgreen Gardens and Hobcaw Barony (link in photo). Their offerings are always changing so be sure to check back often!
