Places to Explore, Bike, or Hike with Kids in Myrtle Beach

explore, bike or hike with kids in myrtle beach

Here are some of our favorite places to explore, bike, or hike with kids in Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand.

state parks

MYRTLE BEACH STATE PARK | Has two trails that connect for a short, easy hike with kids. Read about those here

HUNTINGTON BEACH STATE PARK | Has two trails in different parts of the park. We love them both but definitely recommend the Sandpiper Pond Trail in the less humid/buggy times of year. Read about those trails here.

IF YOU'RE UP FOR A DRIVE THEN THESE ARE GREAT

other great areas to walk/bike

Waccamaw Neck Bikeway | 10 miles from Murrells Inlet to Pawleys Island. Best parking to access is at Morse Park, inside HBSP, or around Trace Dr.

Brookgreen Gardens | The Lowcountry Trail is mostly paved but offers a wonderful tour through local history at info stations along the way.

RIVERWALK IN CONWAY | You can stroll around to find all the Conway Critters or just walk the area by Riverfront Park and back into downtown.

heard about these but not tried yet

Waccamaw River Park | There is a walking/biking trail here and a disc golf course. We’ve tried to explore here but never had good luck finding our way. Extra notes of caution: Previous visits have left us feeling unsafe as a mom alone with young kids so we won’t attempt this one again without other people along.

Crabtree Swamp | 1.5 miles on a paved path

Sherwood Forest Trail | A short .20 mile loop just across the street from the playground.

Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge | This large nature area has lots of trails but many are not available to the public. Be sure to call ahead to make sure they’re accessible because it’s a long drive out there.

Map of Horry County Recreation Facilities | There are many. This map notes which have trails and greenways.
